You walk in your supermarket and everything looks clean, appetizing, and of course “fresh.” It seems everything is sold on the basis of “fresh” these days. But aside from the obvious, that term is rather meaningless. “Yes I’d like a pound of your freshest rat poison Hors’ Dourves, plesase.” Seriously, unless you are constantly educating yourself, what do you really know about what you are eating half the time? To give you a head start on this subject, we found a list of foods to stay away from. 
The list includes:
1. Canned Tomatoes;
2. Corn Fed Beef;
3. Microwave Popcorn;
4. Non-organic potatoes;
5. Farmed Salmon;
6. Milk produced with artificial hormones;
7. Non-organic apples.
Our Take on the list:
As it happens, none of these items ever make it into our pantry with the possible exception of canned tomato paste. But as we have greatly reduced our pasta consumption over the past few months even the cans we have are going unused. We never touch corn fed beef as cow’s are not meant to eat grains, and corn is a grain. We love our grass finished beef, both the taste and the nutritional profile. Potatoes? Well we stopped those for the same reason we cut back on grains: too much starch which in the body becomes too much sugar. Our salmon is always wild caught — you can’t beat the flavor and the superior Vitamin D profile. Our milk is raw, unpasteurized from grass fed cows — artificial hormones never even enter the picture. Our apples are only green organic as green apples have less sugar and more malic acid — both are attributes your body likes! Finally, microwaved popcorn; actually, microwaved anything. Someone gave us an expensive microwave a few years back as a gift. We put it in our kitchen where it went unused and we finally re-gifted it to someone who wanted it. Microwaving food of any kind something we do not do.

what’s wrong with canned tomatoes? I often buy organic canned tomatoes…..none of the rest of that stuff on the list ever enters my house…….
